A BEAUTIFUL FASHION TREAT IN BOHO-CHIC!

Oh, the joys of dressing boho-chic. Whimsical, trendy, floaty, feminine, elegant garments, put together as either layers or single piece ensembles. Bohemian clothing at its finest!

Boho-Chic is a style of fashion drawing on various bohemian and hippie influences, which, at its height in 2005 was associated with actress Sienna Miller and model Kate Moss in England, and (as ‘bobo’ chic) actress Mary-Kate Olsen in the United States.

The boho-chic mode of dressing found a surge of popularity in the 1960s, with its roots going back to pre-Raphaelite women of the mid to late 19th century.

Boho-Chic Fun Fact: “BoHo” is an abbreviation of Bohemian Homeless, self descriptive of the style. Boho-chic clothing has a gypsy vibe to it, the French bohemian translates as “Gypsy or Roma People.” “Chic” was borrowed from the French in the late 19th century and has come to mean stylish or elegant.

The boho look, which owed much to the hippie style that developed in the middle to late 1960s became especially popular after Sienna Miller’s appearance at the Glastonbury Festival in 2004. The postal district of W10 (North Kensington), an area of London, has been associated with the bohemian culture since the mid 1950s.

A beautiful fashion treat in boho-chic!

Boho-Chic Fun Fact: In advance of Glastonbury 2004, the Sunday Times coined the term ‘festival chic’ for a style with some similarities to boho. The Sunday Times labelled a photographic spread of Sienna Miller, Lauren Bailey, Erin O’Connor and others as “boho babes.”

Nancy Mangano’s Boho Fashion Tip: One of the fun aspects of dressing boho-chic is that you can dress in layers of clashing materials and bold, clashing colors and still look art-school chic!

The terms boho-chic and hippie-chic are often used interchangeably in festive fashion description!

The boho-chic style works well with long dresses, short dresses, shorts, pants and jeans. Virtually all types of garments can be mixed and matched to obtain the boho-chic look. Elegant, playful, whimsical and free-flowing! You will look simply stunning and glowing!

Boho-Chic Fun Fact: Although boho-chic in the early years of the 21st century represented a definite style, it wasn’t a movement. Fashionable girls wore fluffy floral skirts in the hope of looking bohemian, nomadic, free spirited and fresh. Gypsy girls saw the bohemian mode of dress as sexy and delightful, with boho-chic being their preferred style.

Boho-Chic Fashion Tip: A sure way to doll up your boho-chic outfit is to add lots of jewelry (think bangle bracelets, long necklaces, numerous chains) and top off your magnificent look with a headband or hair accessory or haute couture hat! You’ll not only mesmerize in boho-chic, but will definitely pull off a signature style that says, “I’m all that!”

In many ways, the boho-look is similar to the trendy, popular vintage look of today!

The boho-chic mode of fashion has a cross-generational appeal: think Twiggy, London mods, Sienna Miller, gypsies, hippies, young adults and children! Boho fashion was made popular more by famous and fashion forward wearers of the style as opposed to the authentic, appealing look being put together by fashion designers themselves.
