Fashion is a distinctive and often constant trend in the style in which a person dresses. It is the prevailing styles in behavior and the newest creations of textile designers. Although aspects of fashion can be feminine or masculine, some trends are androgynous.
One item of fashion that stands the test of time is the ever comfortable, ever attractive pantsuit. A pantsuit, also known as a trouser suit outside the United States, is a woman’s suit of clothing consisting of pants and a matching or coordinating jacket, coat or blazer.
Pantsuit Fun Fact: Formerly, the prevailing fashion for women included some form of a coat, paired with a skirt or a dress – hence the name pantsuit. The pantsuit was introduced in the 1920s, when a small number of women adopted a masculine style, including pantsuits, hats, canes and monocles. Pantsuits had been used in Britain during the First World War, with reference to women working in heavy industry.
The notion of a global fashion industry is a product of the modern age. Prior to the mid-19th century, most clothing was custom made. It was homemade for individuals, either as home production or on order from dressmakers and tailors. By the beginning of the 20th century – with the rise of new technologies such as the sewing machine, the development of the factory system of production and the growth of retail outlets such as department stores – clothing had increasingly come to be mass produced in standard sizes at fixed prices.

Pantsuit Fun Fact: During the 1960s pantsuits for women became increasingly widespread. Designers such as Foale and Tuffin in London and Luba Marks in the United States were early promoters of the pantsuit. In 1966, Yves Saint-Laurent introduced his ‘Le Smoking’, an evening pantsuit for women that mimicked a man’s tuxedo. In 1967, Lady Chichester, wife of the navigator Sir Francis Chichester, wore a pantsuit when her husband was publicly knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.

Pantsuit Fun Fact: Pantsuits at one time were deemed inappropriate for women’s wear. Until 1933, women weren’t permitted to wear pantsuits (or pants of any kind) on the United States Senate floor. In 1933, Senators Barbara Mikulski and Carol Moseley Braun wore pants onto the floor in defiance of the rule, and the female support staff followed, with the rule being amended later that year by Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Martha Pope. This amendment allowed women to wear pants on the floor as long as they also wore a jacket, thus allowing pantsuits.

For example, an American fashion company might source the fabric in China and have the clothes manufactured in Vietnam, finished in Italy and shipped to a warehouse in the United States for distribution to retail outlets internationally.
There is no doubt about it, the fashion industry is big clothes, big business and big bucks all around the world. People love their style, fashion, glamour and look!
The four major current fashion capitals are acknowledged to be Paris, Milan, New York City and London. In recent years, Asian fashion has become increasingly significant in local and global markets. Countries such as Japan, India and Pakistan have traditionally had large textile industries, which have often been drawn upon by Western designers. Asian clothing styles have gained great influence based on their own design.
